"Green" Planters

"Going Green"

One of our most used suppliers is working hard to protect the environement and stay ahead of the game. They are working on a new line of planters that are considered "Green". It is their "Green" Initiative. These planters are made of bamboo a highly renewable resource. We have a sample on hand and it is beautiful.

Also, all of the other planters from this manufacturer are painted with a special paint that when being applied emits 50% less VOC's than standard paint.

We are so excited about these new additions. We just wanted to share them with you.

Fresh fashion by St. Louis designers.

That's right you are seeing a gown made out of real plants. The design team from New Ground - sponsored by Growing Green - designed and fabricated the living garment for a fashion contest among local professional designers in St. Louis.

The gown was based on a colorful "butterfly" concept using six (6) different types of plants and more than 400 leaves. Notice how the jacket has been woven out of the leaves. The bodice was created out of real moss. The head piece incorporated flowers from bromeliads.

Keeping it fresh required changing many leaves just hours before the event.

Creative...fun... and a great way to celebrate the wonder of plants and the many ways they add to our quality of life.

This rooftop patio is new to us this year.

What a spectacular display!!

Here is a close up to one of the planters shown above on the rooftop patio deck. Notice the combination of bright pinks, yellows, oranges, contrasting against the dark green foliage. The terracotta planter really shows off the colors.

WOW!!

This is a long time residential customer of ours who decided this year to add color to his patio. What a beautiful show these flowers are putting on.

This patio planting just grabs your attention and leads you around the patio.

Summer flowers

We are working hard to stay ahead of the heat.

The outdoor plantings are loving all of the sunshine. The flowers are so beautiful already.

This photo shows a great mixture of evergreens and summer annuals. They are happy, happy, happy. Basking in the sun.

Later this summer the vines will cover the pergola and provide some much needed shade for the seating area.

More pictures still to come stay posted!!

Tech Day Out

On Friday June 15th, our Service Department went on a field trip. They went on a 1 hour riverboat cruise on the Tom Sawyer. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the break in the action. After the cruise they were off to enjoy lunch at the 'Old Spaghetti Factory'. What a way to start the weekend!

Don't forget to check out the Home and Garden Calendar in the St Louis Post Dispatch.

Learning About Living Rocks

There is a great new product we have found. It's called the Living Rock. It serves as a unique vase for a contemporary green arrangement. These are big hunks of slate with a space chiseled out containing a small pin frog.

When we attended the Tropical Foliage Symposium in Florida, we were introduced to the living rocks. They would be a great accent any place you would put a flower arrangement or a small tropical plant. For example; on a reception desk, in an executive office on the credenza, or on a side table in a seating area.

If you're looking for Living Rocks in St. Louis, we have them.

Since 1973, Growing Green has guided customers in the St. Louis area through the world of botanical names and horticultural designs by building the trusting relationships that allow our expertise to be utilized.
